In focus collection

Celebrating 40 years of craftsmanship, design and innovation, Silverlining Furniture presents In Focus, a collection that explores the nexus of traditional craft and advanced technologies. Each piece reflects our commitment to sustainable approaches through low-impact techniques, responsible sourcing and environmentally conscious design. This collection boldly redefines contemporary furniture making, demonstrating that true luxury lies in the harmony between heritage skills and pioneering innovation.

In Focus captures the essence of nature, light and science through exceptional craftsmanship. From microscopic cellular patterns to the sweeping movements of glaciers, each design transforms natural phenomena into tangible artistry. This collection is not merely innovative; it represents four decades of accumulated knowledge, passion and relentless pursuit of excellence.

Cascade

Created using veneer off-cuts, Cascade transforms waste into a design statement. The marquetry surface is composed of a rich tapestry of through-dyed veneers, including ripple sycamore, lacewood, birdseye maple and quilted maple, each contributing unique tone, grain and character.

Sculpted side profiles are built from stacked layers of leftover coach-hide leather and through-dyed veneers, carefully assembled to echo the fluid patterns of the marquetry. This stacked edge is both a visual detail and a sensory one, intentionally inviting connection through texture and touch.

autumn drift

Inspired by British autumn leaves and their colour palette, Autumn Drift fuses natural beauty with the detailed chequering used on finely crafted gunstocks. Chequering is a traditional gunsmithing technique in which fine, intersecting lines are cut to form a diamond pattern developed to enhance both grip and visual appeal through precise hand tooling.

The autumnal leaves are made using veneers native to the British Isles, and the natural marquetry pattern flows elegantly through to the solid walnut grips on the sides. The design is punctuated with a fine strip of polished champagne-gold-plated brass, bringing both historical significance and contemporary elegance.

cell diffusion

Cell Diffusion draws inspiration from the naturally occurring process of diffusion, the movement of particles from high to low concentration, forming unique organic patterns. The finish has been made sustainably using off-cuts of solid timbers readily available in the Silverlining workshop.

Behind the polished crystal resin lens, a micro-etched metallised resin pattern is visible, warping with movement. Two distinct finishes further accentuate the pattern, creating a mesmerising interplay between depth and surface.

shimmer

Shimmer is a study in surface, light and local material tradition. Using only British-grown oak in natural, fumed and iron-dyed finishes, it reflects Silverlining's commitment to native timbers and time-honoured finishing methods. Iron dyeing and fuming, historically used to alter oak's tones, deepen the grain without obscuring its character.

Across the surface, a micro-CNC carved texture generated through parametric design, undulates in alternating directions. As perspective changes, the carving catches and scatters light, creating a rippling effect reminiscent of wind dancing across a lake. A fine inlay of polished copper cuts through the piece, dividing light and dark oak while amplifying the play of light.

Valley glacier

Valley Glacier is a refined, tactile composition capturing the essence of glacial movement through a fusion of natural and synthetic materials. The white-oiled, hand-textured oak provides a warm, organic base with visible grain enhanced by a soft, pale finish, evoking the rugged terrain over which glaciers flow.

Embedded within are sculpted, flowing forms of dyed straw cast in satin-finished resin, creating a layered, dappled, coloured-light effect that adds depth and movement. The resin-encased straw elements mimic the sinuous lines and surface undulations of a valley glacier, capturing the motion and weight of ice in a suspended, tactile state.

divide

Inspired by Tobi-Ishi the stepping stones in Japanese garden design, Divide arranges radial English oak oysters around converging anodised titanium inlays. The end-grain oak segments contrast light and dark: one face delicately white-oiled and limed, the other dyed with the deep hues of traditional Japanese Sumi ink.

Between them, colourful anodised titanium, finished through a non-toxic process using only water and voltage, introduces a shifting spectrum of iridescent colour. This combination of heritage oak techniques with advanced metal finishing exemplifies the signature of Silverlining's unique approach to contemporary furniture making.
