For Studio SL, Silverlining's creative design studio, an unexpected form is not a stylistic choice. It is the result of asking a harder question than the brief requires, and refusing to stop until the answer is both structurally sound and visually complete. Two decades of work across bespoke commissions and limited editions have produced furniture that bends perception, revives techniques on the edge of extinction, and solves structural problems that have no precedent.

Leather is one of the oldest and most extraordinary materials in the world. It ages with intention, deepening in character with every passing year. In the hands of a skilled craftsperson, it transforms from a natural hide into something that transcends its origins, acquiring structure, texture, and a life of its own.

Originally known in France as the fauteuil confortable, the club chair emerged in the late 19th century as a deliberate alternative to formal seating. At a time when chairs were designed to impose posture and etiquette, this new form proposed something radical: comfort first.

The art of creating pictures and patterns in wood veneer. Yet this cherished craft is disappearing fast. Listed on the Heritage Crafts Red List of Endangered Crafts, fewer than a hundred practitioners in the UK maintain it as a professional skill. Without intervention, this centuries-old technique risks extinction within a generation.

Leather cording (the technique of wrapping narrow strips of leather around handles, grips, and structural element) has existed for as long as humans have worked with hide. What began as pure function has evolved into decorative craft, one that Silverlining has reimagined for contemporary furniture.
